#Fantasy Super Rugby Week 6: Hit or Miss

Here’s out weekly reflection on our picks for last week in what was a fascinating weekend of Super Rugby.

Don’t Touch (SELL)

Image result for wildcardImage result for red thumbs downDouglas 41pts – Solid week, and no move in price, so no need to cash in last week.

Kerevi 48pts – Kerevi was the 5th highest scoring centre, but he did lose some value. There weren’t many better options, but you might have been able to cash in on a high with the Reds facing the Brumbies then a bye.

Image result for green thumbs up Curwin Bosch 24pts – despite his kicking success plenty of other higher scoring options at his price point last weekend.

Image result for red thumbs down All Reds and Bulls backs – This wasn’t as clear cut as expected. The Bulls put in a great performance for 60 mins against the Chiefs and Ulengo 36pts and Odendaal 38pts had a good week and Pollard was very good with 46ptsNabuli 46pts, Kuridrani 55pts, Hunt 34pts and Paia’aua 38pts all had good weeks. Plenty to choose from in the end.

Image result for green thumbs up Sharks backs – this was spot on bar one exception – Van Wyk 72pts had a stormer. Everyone else was mediocre to poor.

Image result for green thumbs up with no Foley, Folau 22pts and Kellaway 16 pts were poor. No idea why Gibson is keeping one of the worlds best broken field runners at centre, and even more so why they insisted in using Folau to hit it up the middle.

Pause (HOLD)

Image result for red thumbs down Du Preez 16 pts – For the first time this season Du Preez was poor and he’s on a down slope. Last week was clearly the week to get rid of his as the Sharks have a bye after the Jags.

Image result for green thumbs up Kerevi 48 pts – unless you were worried about cashing in Kerevi because you want to go another way long term he was solid hold.

Image result for green thumbs upHigginbotham 64pt was superb.

Image result for green thumbs up Hooper 59pts & Latu 26pts – Hooper has a great week, and put in an exceptional performance. Latu was solid at his price point.

Image result for green thumbs upNeither Beast or Botha started, so of course you wouldn’t have picked them but Coenie 35pts had a great week and scored a fantastic rampaging try.

Engage (BUY)

Image result for green thumbs up Highlanders – Easy pick, but plenty of points scorers to be had for the ‘Landers.

Image result for green thumbs up Both the Stormers and Crusaders played to form with plenty of points to be had with both teams against poor defences.

Image result for wildcard Julian Savea 47pts – a good week, but Jules wasn’t in the top 10, so plenty of other better options.

Rieko Ioane 32pts / Moala 43pt – Reiko did considering he came off bench and as expected, especially playing 13, Moala had a good week, but not spectacular as he just squeezed in the top 10 with the Blues making hard work of the Force.

Image result for green thumbs up Brodie Retallick 43pts – another great week.

Jaco Kriel 43pts – considering he scored a try, just a solid week. 10th highest backrow and if you brought him in specifically you might have left yourself problems this week with Ardie’s injury

Pieter-Steph du Toit 34pts – solid week as 7th best lock, but outperformed by Eben, and lost more value. From the most expensive lock by far you’d be looking for top 3 performance.

Image result for green thumbs up Chiefs, Chiefs, Chiefs. No brainer right. McKenzie 55pt, Retalick 43pts, Kerr-Barlow 25pt, Cane 1pt (but off within minutes), Cruden 32pts and Lowe 58pts, were all close to top of their position and  had god weeks. The value picks weren’t quite as good as neither Kane Hames or Pulu started, and Stevenson only got 26pts despite a superb individual try.

Image result for green thumbs upHurricanes – Again, not rocket science, but hopefully you paid attention to the preference as position. Jordie Barrett 77pts did have the best week at centre as indicated. Aso was average at 23pts and Laumpe suffered with his yellow card at 12pts. Ardie 62pts was immense. Coles missed the game, but TJ’s 52pts was awesome and Savea 47pts was good.

Image result for green thumbs up We picked Marais as our best OBK bet this week and he came through as the highest scoring OBK at a whooping 105pts. If only any of us had followed our own advice …..

Image result for green thumbs up…… Eben > Pieter-Steph as anticipated.

Ben Smith was a late scratch otherwise he would have surely killed it. Dillon Hunt 25pts continues to be good value and Fekitoa 62pts rolled back the years and looked like the Fekitoa of 2 years ago.

Week 6 Super Rugby Scout Line-up

In a high scoring week, our suggested line-up got 500 pts. Now that does include Foley, and clearly any good manager would have replaced him with a starter, and looked to upgrade elsewhere. With good captain selection it could have been a nice 550+ score. However, big names at centre didn’t perform, and there were much better options at prop and hooker. Solid week, but not our best.
